What does B2 level mean?
B2 is “upper-intermediate”, the level many universities and employers ask for. You can follow most conversations, argue a point of view and write clear, detailed texts. In grammar, B2 means you control the full range of tenses and can use more complex structures without thinking too long.
FAQ
Is this test good preparation for B2 First (FCE)?
It covers the grammar tested in the B2 First Use of English paper, but in a simpler format. The real exam also has word formation, key word transformations and open cloze tasks. Use this test to find your weak grammar areas, then practise them with the linked exercises.
I scored over 80%. What next?
Take the 50-question version a couple of times to make sure. If your score stays high, try the C1 grammar test, which adds inversion, advanced linkers and formal structures. If you’re between 50% and 80%, focus on the topics with the lowest score in your results.
Why are phrasal verbs in a grammar test?
At B2, phrasal verbs like put off, look after and come up with are expected in both speaking and writing, and they appear in most B2 exams. They behave partly like grammar (word order, particles) and partly like vocabulary, so we include the most common ones.
