What’s in the A2 grammar test

What does A2 level mean?

A2 is the “elementary” level. You can talk about yourself, your family, your job and daily routine, describe past events in simple sentences, and make plans. Your grammar is mostly correct in short sentences, but longer ones still cause mistakes.

FAQ

What should I do after the test?

Look at the “By topic” results. Pick the topic with the lowest score and practise it first. Most topics have a link to a full exercise page. If you score 80% or more several times, move on to the B1 grammar test.

Is A2 the same as “pre-intermediate”?

Roughly. Many coursebooks call A2 “elementary” and the end of A2 “pre-intermediate”. The CEFR names (A1, A2, B1…) are the international standard used by Cambridge, IELTS and most schools in Europe.

Can teachers use this test in class?

Yes. Choose the number of questions, then click “Download worksheet” under the test. You’ll get a printable PDF of that exact selection, with an answer key on a separate page. Every download can be a different version of the test.
